What is a fixed Dental Bridge?

A fixed dental bridge is a restoration that can replace one or more missing teeth. The way that a dental bridge works is by attaching to the two surrounding teeth. The middle section of the fixed bridge will contain the false tooth, which is known as the pontic, that simply sits over the gums.

Why would a Dental Bridge be needed?

A fixed dental bridge is normally needed if you are missing a tooth. If you’re not a good candidate for implant surgery or you’d rather a less invasive option, bridges require no surgery or incisions to place. The procedure is very similar to a dental crown, but the restoration attached is larger.

What occurs during the
Dental Bridge appointment?

The bridge procedure begins with a local anesthetic used to fully numb the gums and teeth. We then shape down the two outermost teeth so that there’s enough room for the new fixed bridge. Dental impressions allow us to take detailed molds of the area and use these molds to create the permanent bridge.

You will then be given an appointment to come back in for a second visit after the bridge has been made so that we can place it in the mouth. The second appointment involves placing the bridge and making some slight adjustments to the way that it fits. You’ll then be ready to leave the office with a brand new smile.
