Teeth Cleaning

Your child’s regular dental cleaning and exam is an important part of maintaining his or her oral health. These visits are a great way for our dentists to make sure your child is keeping up with oral hygiene habits and also allow us to detect any potential problem that may be lurking beneath the surface.

We recommend that your child should be brought to our office every six months for a dental cleaning and exam. Dental X-rays may also be taken so we can detect any issues happening in between your child’s teeth and below the gum line. Additionally, catching problems or potential problems early on will save you and your child a lot of time, money, and pain.

Child’s Dental Cleaning & Exam

A routine dental exam will commonly last between 20-45 minutes, depending mostly on your child’s dental health, any dental anxieties, and other unique circumstances. During your child’s exam, your dentist will:

Check for dental cavities, tooth decay, or other signs of dental disease
Inspect the gum tissue for signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease
Inspect the rest of the soft tissue in the mouth to screen for other potential problems or disease
Perform a thorough tooth cleaning
Take dental X-rays as needed to check the development of the teeth and any other problems that cannot be detected with the naked eye

During each dental cleaning and exam, your child’s teeth will be cleaned, polished, and rinsed in order to remove any plaque buildup, bacteria, or tartar that may have accumulated on the tooth’s surface or between the teeth.
